In addition to receiving skill training on the job, our apprentices are provided trade related classroom training that produces competency and pride that lead to true craftsmanship. Ohio Operating Engineers Apprenticeship and Training Program

Operating Engineers built roads, bridges, dams and assist in construction of large buildings and other structures. The work is divided into two general classifications: OPERATING EQUIPTMENT used in construction such as dozers, graders, backhoes, pavers and cranes and REPARING EARTH MOVING EQUIPTMENT. Working as an Operating Engineer is an excellent career for men and women who want to acquire multiple skills, work outdoors and become creative in their employment while earning a decent wage.

The Plumbing, Pipefitting, and Refrigeration Local Union 94 Apprenticeship is located in Canton, Ohio. The training combines structured, on-the-job training with related classroom instruction. Apprenticeships provide a complete education in all aspects of the craft, and training extends beyond the specific skills required by any one employer. During this time, apprentices are paid a progressive wage increase.

The Iron Workers 550 offers an apprenticeship program to those interested in working with metals. Most ironworker apprenticeships last 3 or 4 years depending on the local union requirements. An ideal schedule provides equal training in structural, reinforcing, ornamental, welding, and rigging. The actual length of training for each subject may vary depending on the predominant type of work available in the local area. The subjects taken in the shop and classroom complement the hands-on training received in the field. The subjects include blueprint reading, care and safe use of tools, mathematics, safety issues, welding and oxy-acetylene flame cutting.

The Sheet Metal Worker Apprenticeship training center is located in Massillon, OH. Sheet metal workers do a variety of jobs. They design, fabricate and install heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. They use computers to fabricate sheet metal products. They design and create a variety of architectural details like brass and copper ornamentation, columns, skylights, signs and metal ceilings. A sheet metal apprenticeship allows you to learn a craft while working and earning an income. The program offers a well-rounded mix of classroom education, hands-on learning and on-the-job training.

Construction Craft Laborers' Apprenticeship Program

The Construction Craft Laborers offer an apprenticeship program to those interested in working in a variety of fields. Physical and technical skills required to perform tasks associated with: construction, remodeling, and demolition of buildings, dams, bridges, airports, streets, sewers, tunnels, etc. Typically a laborer may do placement of asphalt and concrete, assisting brick masons, carpenters, and plaster masons, earth compaction, pavement breaking, landscaping, pipe laying, cleanup, flagging, environmental remediation, cutting and burning steel, rigging, sandblasting, etc. A minimum of 4000 hours of on the job experience is required. In most cases, the active apprentice will be transferred each year to another employer of a different work environment. This is necessary to gain a well-rounded journey person. A minimum of 144 hours of classroom instruction must be completed each year.
